Define Bill Sections
Besides the root section, a user can manually add any number of sections/subsections to the BOQ of a project. To achieve this, navigate to the BOQ scene, and click on the +Section button at the bottom of the window. This will open up the Select Parent Section box. In this case, only the root section is available as an option, but as you create more sections and subsections you will be able to choose where and under what existing section the new section must reside.

A new section can be given a number and a description and once created will appear in the bill of quantities.

To add a new subsection, follow the process outlined above and select the parent section, i.e. the Earthworks section, as shown in Figure: Subsection Parent.

For the purposes of this example, we added a subsection, called Excavation, filling, etc. other than bulk, to the section Earthworks.

Note: Any Bill Section can be flagged as a private section using the kebab menu, as shown in Figure: Flag Section Private, where the newly added subsection is flagged private. A typical use case for this would be to add all unapproved bill items of a variation order to a private section so that it can be hidden from view for reporting purposes until approval has been obtained.
To hide private sections, open up the Sections tab and flip the switch Hide Private Sections, as shown in Figure: Hiding Private Sections.

As long as Hide Private Sections is on, all sections flagged private will not show up in the main BOQ table. Notice that the "Excavation, filling, etc. other than bulk" subsection, which was flagged private, is not shown in the main table from the moment the hide-switch is toggled.
Keeping in mind that a BOQ can become large, the Sections tab provides useful features for navigating the BOQ. By selecting a section in the pane, the BOQ is filtered to display only the selected section when the “Show” mode is active, cf. top of Figure: Section navigation. Alternatively, the “Scroll to” mode can be used to scroll directly to the selected section, without the rest of the BOQ being filtered out, cf. bottom of Figure: Section Navigation.
