Track and Forecast Scene

In Measurement and Timelines, we saw how we can create timelines and measurements manually or automatically via the Generate Timeline feature. Now, since there is a time component to the measurements in a timeline, i.e. each measurement has a date of measure, a timeline can also be represented visually as a time series. This can be done in the Track and Forecast scene, which can be found in the Navigation tab:

Figure: Track and Forecast Scene

Here you can draw a time series by clicking the Time Series tab and then the +Series button.

Figure: Adding a Time Series

This will bring up the Add Timeline Series box, where you can select the relevant options for the time series that you want to draw.

Your first option is to select the timeline that you want to use to draw the time series. Drawing the series will take the measurements and their values contained within that timeline and draw it for you as a line chart.

You can either select an existing timeline or you can generate a new one using the +Generate button. Then follow the steps as explained in Generate a Timeline with Pre-Populated Measurement Values.

The next step is to select what you want to report on, i.e. either the project total or an individual item. If you select an individual item, you have the option to select the type of item you want to report on, namely a bill record (BOQ line item), resource, cluster, bill attribute, or resource attribute.

Next, you can select the analysis type, where you have the option of using the quantity, net amount or selling amount for each measurement value in the timeline.

Then you can select the series color and give the series a name.

For example, if we select the Example Forecast timeline that we generated using an S-Curve calculation in Section 10.3 and we report on the project total and net amount then we will have a time series drawn as follows.

You can also add multiple time series to a time series view if, for example, you wanted to generate another timeline that started a month later and draw it on the selling amount instead of the net amount then you can draw a cash flow curve that will look as follows.

Once you have a time-series view setup which you would like to save for future use, you can do so by clicking on the Charts tab and then click on +Save As at the bottom.
