Example Report

In Trimble Quest, any report can be created on-screen by simply making desired property- and/or calculated fields visible or invisible, as required by the user. Additional fields are presented in the form of extra table columns. By combining this with the built-in filtering capabilities, data can be explored and analyzed in a simple but powerful way. Any report layout can be saved and used as a template.

Consider, for example, a report that eventually shows the quantities and amounts allowed for each of the materials used in the project under consideration. For clarity, this is done in two steps.

In the first step, we filter the resource list for materials used in the project, as shown in Figure: Materials used in project, as follows:

  1. Open the Resources scene. This will initially display the list of all resources of the project.

  2. Open the Filter action tab on the right-hand side.

  3. On the Filter tab, select the option to "Filter by resource attribute" and under the Resource Type,

  4. Select "Material". This will display all materials in the resource list, whether they are used in the project or not.

  5. On the Filter tab, switch on the option "Hide unused resources". This will remove unused materials from the view.

The filter will keep the document in this state until it is cleared or the document is closed. Notice that the filter icon remains red as long as the filter is active.

In the second step, we set columns for the quantity and amount allowed for each material to be visible, as shown in Figure: Material quantities and net amounts. Proceeding from the filtered view created above:

  1. Click on the "Columns" action tab and remove unwanted columns under the "General" heading.

  2. Click on "Measurements columns".

  3. Switch on "Quantity".

  4. Switch on "Net amount".

Figure: Material quantities and net amounts

The report shows all material resources used in the project with their total Quantities and total Net amounts. This simple report can now be used by the buyer to make sure that the resources being bought is within the allowed budget, or by the estimator to see where the high-value items in his resource list are to determine risk and better buying procedures.
