Create Composite Bill Items

Composite bill items are created by using the +Composite button below the main BOQ table. It is then added, as a generic composite item, to the bottom of the selected parent section, as shown in Figure: Add Composite Bill Item.

Double-clicking on a composite item in the BOQ will open the Composite Item Editor which provides the functionality required to define the item’s properties, as well as that of its component items. To update the properties of a composite item, ensure that the item itself is selected in the explorer and open the Comp Item Info tab in the right-hand side pane. Properties of a composite bill item can be updated via the applicable text fields and drop-down menus, just like for normal bill items. However, the quantity of a composite item cannot be specified before component items have been added to the composite item since the quantities of a composite item and that of its components are interrelated.

Component items are added using the button +Item, as shown in Figure: Component Items of Composite Item. The properties of the component items are defined for normal items, except again that their quantities are not specified. Once the component items have been added, the quantity of the composite item is specified, as well as the weighting factor of each of its components. A weighting factor expresses the quantity of the component item required to produce one unit of the composite item. Consequently, the quantities of component items are the product of the composite item quantity and their respective weighting factors. Whenever a quantity is changed, the related quantities are re-calculated to comply with the weighting factors. This is shown in Figure: Component Items of Composite Item, for the example of a composite item, "Sewer pipe excavation", which comprises two component items, namely "Machine excavation" and "Hand excavation". Machine excavation accounts for 90% of the total excavation, and hand excavation for the remaining 10%. In this example, the unit of measurement of the component items and the composite item is the same, namely cubic meters. However, this does not have to be the case, as explained in more detail in Price Composite Bill Items.
